Book two in the Crossroads series starts off with summer break just ending and Katia heading back to Crossroads. Her relationship with Shaye is growing stronger and her feeling for Nik more confusing. In this book the adventure kicks up a notch when something happens that puts Shaye's life at risk. Katia is very protective of the people she cares about because there are so few left. She is willing to put her life in jeopardy to help save her best friend.  She finds help in unexpected places and goes against some of the Authoritative figures in her life damn the consequences.
The characters are more in depth in this book, Katia is a very strong willed person that does what she feels is right even though she is out of her league with the people she is dealing with. She has a real teenager feel to her, JJ Bonds did a terrific job portraying that. I love to see a young, strong female character and think it's great for other young adults to see putting friendship before romance is important.  You do not see that enough!
A character I am intrigued about is Blaine which is Nik's friend that helps out in many ways in this book, I hope he is brought more to the forefront in coming installments.

Quote that I liked that really shows Katia's personality

" I'm kind of proud of myself for exercising such restraint. Any other day I might've wiped that look off Trey's face. With my fist. It occurs to me that I may have a problem with anger management."

It is the first in the Crossroads Academy series. J.J. lives in Carlisle, Pennsylvania where her love of all things paranormal keeps life interesting.
